Lucks Reflection
Fortune Cookie: "Behind bad luck comes good luck"
11"x14" Acrylic gouache on cold press
This illustration depicts a black cat looking into its reflection of an ornate broken mirror seeing a lucky cat on the other side. While Black cats and broken mirrors are signs of bad luck in western eyes the Lucky cat, is believed to attract good luck and fortune for its owners. Thus, it's very common to find a Maneki Neko on display in stores, restaurants and other businesses. The details on the mirror show a horse shoe, skulls and dice. The dice are both lucky with the number 7 and unlucky with 666. The background is Red due to the representation in Chinese culture of happiness, beauty, success and good fortune. The target audience is an editorial illustration perhaps accompanying an article. This is due to editorial illustrations style of using flat bright colours.
Celebrating Greif
Medium: Gouche and Watercolor pencilsSize: 11x14" on watercolour paper
Final Illustration of "Celebrating grief" depicts the cake on a table setting accompanied by a scythe and pitch fork. Through the use of Gouache and watercolor pencils I've illustrated a heart shaped cake. The cake has a tombstone/Candle wafting smoke wit the letters RIP. The utensils, instead of a fork and knife are the pitch fork and scythe alluding to imagery of death (the grim reaper) and hell (satans pitchfork) and sadness (grief). Opposite of that I use pastel, pleasing colour pallet with a happy cake since at many celebrations you'll find cake and fun, happy colors.
Turning point
Gouache on Watercolour paper This illustration depicts the beginning of a friendship and their growth through it. It begins with the first panel dropping a pencil to my friend which has a backpack spilling its contents into the last panel of us spending time with one another. Each panel is a different stage in our life, first a young and elementary school desk, to high school the now as adults. The colours represent that no matter how different we are, in the end we compliment one another.
Mask of Myself
“Exploring the idea of self representation and image this piece(s) break down step by step how I think I am viewed by the people around me. The first layer, being the most simple and cartoon like is an exaggeration of who I am, how I portray myself. The second layer is how I think people see me, rather flat and and traditional however still not truly myself. And lastly is what I believe to be truly me, the perspective I rather try to hide but I know deep down is myself...”
